NEW DELHI: Thrice as many voters will exercise their franchise in the May mid-term poll than in the first general elections in 1952.

Over the last 39 years the electorate size has gone up from 173213635 to staggering 521000000 for the Tenth Lok Sabha poll.

The rise in the number of electorate has been remarkable in the last 15 months. From 498647730 in 1989 there are 22352270 additions in the tally.

With the reduction of voting age from 25 years to 18 years the size of the electorate saw a whopping increase in the 1989 elections when the election commission enlisted 498647730 people in the voting rolls.
