NEW DELHI: The Congress-I said an early poll is the only way to resolve the political crisis and accused the BJP of making attempts to postpone the elections.
A party spokesman M J Akbar told newsmen that BJP is developing ‘cold feet’ to face the people as it is obvious that the RSS leadership had informed it about its dim prospects in the event of an immediate poll.
He declined to comment on the reported nexus between BJP and JD(S) saying the party would react only if there is further evidence to confirm this development. ‘However the telephone line between the prime minister and the BJP leadership has seen constant activity.”
Mr Akbar also categorically said no emissaries had been sent by the Congress I President Mr Rajiv Gandhi to Mr Chandra Shekhar for a patch up bid between the party and the JD(S).
Akbar said that the views expressed by some of the party MPs against the holding of elections were secondary to the prime need of the hour for having elections.
