NEW DELHI: Opposition Congress-l president Rajiv Gandhi visited Teheran enrooted Moscow Saturday at the invitation of Iranian president Hashemi Rafsanjani.
During his brief stay in Moscow Gandhi met Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev whose peace plan to end the gulf war has failed party spokesman Vithal Gadgil told newsmen here Friday.
Gandhi in his peace mission might also visit Baghdad and some other countries in the region Gadgil said.
Gandhi was accompanied by former external affairs minister P.V.Narasimsha Rao former foreign secretary Romesh Bhandari and an aide Mani Shankar Aiyer who is a former Foreign Service official.
Gadgil said the Congress-l fully supported Gorbachev’s peace plan.
Earlier Gandhi hailed the acceptance of the Soviet peace proposals by Saddam Hussain and appealed to President Bush to accept them and bring peace in the region.
