PATIALA: Residents of Phaggan Majra and adjoining villages blocked traffic on the Patiala Serhind Road in protest against the killing of Harjang Singh of Phaggan Majra and an employee of the local sugar mill in a fake encounter last week.
A large crowd gathered at the KIoca Rajindera Hospital to collect the body of Harjang Singh.
The district president of the Youth Akali Dal Harmohinder Singh alleged that the man had been killed in a fake encounter and another youth injured in the BSF firing he said.
Charanjit Singh Walia a former MP was in a deputation which met the Deputy Commissioner demanding an inquiry. An SP has been asked to look into the fake encounter death.
Earlier at a press conference the police spokesman said that a checkpoint was set up near the village the previous night. A motorcycle approached it and on being asked to stop the rider switched off the lights of the motorcycle and tried to speed away. A show was fired injuring a constable. The BSF returned the fire in which one militant was killed and another injured.
