NEW DELHI: The Saudi ambassador in India Sheikh Fouad S Mufti said on Thursday India should give more active assistance including providing facilities to the US. Led multinational forces in their bid to liberate Kuwait.

Such assistance would be within the ambit of the United Nations Security Council resolution 678 the ambassador said.

The Sri Lankan government had taken such a course of action he said.

Sheikh Fouad refused to be drawn out whether by facilities he meant providing refueling facilities to the allied aircraft and warships.

Sheikh Fouad said India should also provide more economic political and humanitarian assistance to the multinational forces.

The Saudi ambassador said India had always supported the liberation causes whether it was Palestine Zimbabwe South Africa and it was India’s responsibility to help the cause of Kuwait’s liberation.

The ambassador refused to comment when newsmen asked about the Saudi government’s views on Pakistan’s attempts to link the Kashmir issue with vacation of Kuwaiti occupation and the Palestinian issue

The ambassador said at the moment his governments every effort was directed towards the liberation of Kuwait and he was not bothered to link this issue with any other issue.
