BHUBANESWAR Chief Justice of India Ranganath Mishra has expressed concern over the present situation in the country and called upon freedom fighters to lead the way in unifying and strengthening the nation.

I believe the independence struggle is not yet over and the freedom fighters still have a bigger role to play in the present situation” Justice Mishra said while addressing the fourth freedom fighters day celebrations here.

While freedom was achieved politically in 1947 the people have yet to taste the fruits of independence he said.

You are not pensioners he told freedom fighters your job is not over with the end of the independence movement and you should not retire from public life.

I am occupying a position from which I cannot speak out I feel like crying. There is an urgent need to revive this country again he said in a voice choked with emotion.

Recalling that Hindus Muslims and Christians had unitedly fought the war of independence against the British Mr. Justice Mishra said that the unity had developed cracks over the last 43 years.

Our national character is lost while massacres continued unabated he said adding mass killings in Punjab do not cause tremor’s anymore in our conscience

Government is an association of men who do violence for the rest of us.
