BATHINDA: The Bathinda district police has initiated proceedings for cancellation of arms licenses and withdrawal of security guards given to certain influential but “notorious” persons who have allegedly made “browbeating” and “and grabbing” their daily business.
The SSP Bathinda, Paramjit Singh, has prepared a list of at least 10 unscrupulous elements that are under continuous police vigilance, The SSP has recommended to the Deputy Commissioner to cancel their arms licenses. Five of the licenses have already been cancelled, and the remaining five cancellations are under process.
Mr. Gill said here, Sept.17 that a brother and a cousin of a superintendent of Police in the CRPF posted in Chandigarh, were among those whose licenses were cancelled and a case of land grabbing was registered against them in the local city Kotwali, He said that they, along with eight more hired persons, had tried to grab a piece of land on Multania Road. He said that all the accused were arrested.
‘The SSP said that in another case of land grabbing in Harpal Nagar, he had recommended that the license of the personal weapon of Niranjan Singh, a Congress leader and the sarpanch of village Kutiwal, who had accompanied the grabbers, he cancelled. He said that the two security guards given to Singh had also been withdrawn last Sunday. The SSP said that an inquiry into the Harpal Nagarland grabbing case was being conducted separately by a four member committee comprising two SPs, an S.D.M. and a tehsildar.
