PATIALA: The BKU (Lakhowal) Dec.1 launched a morcha against alleged antifarmer policies of the Punjab and central governments.
Announcing this here, Manjit Singh Kadian, general secretary of the BKU said a dharma was organized by the BK U in front of the head office of the PSEB as part of the morcha. Thousands of farmers from all over the state look part.
The decision to stage the dharma was taken at a meeting of the executive of the BKU.
Earlier, the BKU had no plan to start the morcha.
A BKU spokesman said farmers would stage a dharma in front of the PSEB office daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
He said the next meeting of the BKU executive would be held on Dec. 20 to review the progress of the morcha. Manjit Singh Kadian was appointed organizer of the morcha.
The BKU spokesman said the government had increased the power tariff sharply and had not been given Rs 20 per quintal which the government had promised to give as the Center had reduced the rate of pusa variety of paddy from Rs 350 to Rs 320.
Farmers: had to face a lot of problems for getting DAP fertilizer which was being sold on the black market in certain districts.
Besides, in certain districts the purchase of paddy had been stopped and because of this farmers had to sell paddy. To price millers at R$ 300 per quintal:
He said that farmers had not been given any compensation for the damage which was caused to their crops by floods in July this year.
