NEW ORLEANS (LOUISIANA): On Sept.29, 1991 the Sangat (Sikh, Community) of New Orleans was kind enough to understand the reasons of S. Balwant Singh and S. Amolak Singh not to continue as the President and Gen Secretary respectively. The Sangat nominated the following dedicated Sikhs for the Executive Committee of Gurdwara Sahib;
Dr. Balminder Singh Mangat (President),
Dr.Rajinder Singh Kakar (Vice President)
Dr. Mohinder Singh Ogra Gen. Secretary)
Dr. Gurbachan Singh Rai (Treasures)
Balde Singh Sangha (Member at Large)
Considering the dedication of Dr. Mangat and the cooperation of Sangat he has, it is hoped that the construction of the Gurdwara Sahib will be complete within few months. Dr. Mangat (42) is a successful Psychiatric doctor in New Orleans. According to our good old tradition he is still living with his parents. His parents Sardar Jagir Singh Mangat (86) and Sardarni Hardyal Kaur Mangat (76) are very religious people. In this age mothers memory is far more than excellent. With the blessing of God, she has great stamina to remember and recite Gurbani. The present reporter was treasurer 4 years ago and forgotten who had given him $500 for the Gurdwara Sahib. Mother was the only source of information. (Hardball M.A. too was well known for his memory!) Father maintains a good health by walking a mile or two every day. Approximately 40 years ago he spearheaded the service for constructing the Gurdwara Sahib in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, E. Africa, During those days he sponsor Giant Amolak Singh (now in U.K.) as the Granth of the Dares Salaam Gurdwara Sahib and even up till now he often remember and appreciate the Kiran by Giani Amolak Singh. S. Jagic Singh Mangat was generous enough to donate $50, 000,00 for the construction of Gurdwara Sahib in New Or Jeans. WSN congratulates Sardar Sahib for this service.
