Sir,

In reference to your news item World Sikh News dated Oct.2392 the executions of Harginder Singh Jinda.and Sukhdev Singh Sukha in connection with the killing of General A.S.Vaidya brings to mind the agonizing memories of Operation Blue Start at Golden Temple Amritsar assassination of Indira Gandhi and subsequent wholesale massacre of the Sikhs on the streets of New Delhi in 1984. Indian justice system seems to move with lightning speed when it has the will and intention to do so but turns a deaf ear dithers or moves at a snail’s pace when the will to move fast is lacking. When it comes to minorities the discriminating long arm of the law of the land does not give the benefit of doubt to spare the lives of even those individuals such as Kehr Singh in Indira Gandhi murder case who was suspected of marginal involvement and indicted purely on the basis of circumstantial evidence. On the other hand perpetrators of similar or even worse crimes involving killing in cold blood of thousands of Sikh men women and children and burning them alive on the streets of New Delhi in full view of the world are dauntlessly roaming about the same streets with impunity Under one pretext or the other the Indian justice system has been cither dragging its feet or unwilling to prosecute these criminals for the last eight years. This double standard of Justice speaks volumes for the lack of integrity and impartiality of the Indian judiciary leading to further erosion of confidence of the minorities in the Indian judicial system. Denial of equal justice poses far greater danger to India than the perceived menace of all the militant organizations and their weapons combined. Justice delayed is justice denied and the denial of justice invariably leads to subversion revolt and disintegration. The perpetuation of this kind of double standard of justice will tum the post-independence dream of Ram Rajya into Rawan Rajya and would prove to be the last nail in the coffin of Indias unity and integration.
