United Nations: Many allies snubbed the United States by young for the end to the longstanding American embargo of Cuba.
It was the second consecutive year that the General Assembly, in a forceful resolution, repudiating the 33yearold embargo and urged nations to ignore it.
The vote in the 184nation General Assembly was 88 10 4, with §7 abstentions. The vote on a similar draft last year was 59 to 3, with 71 abstentions. Voting against the anti-embargo resolution were the United States, Israel, Albania and Paraguay.
The European Community was split, with Belgium, France, Greece and Spain voting in favor and Britain, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Portugal abstaining.
