JALANDHAR: The detention of seven policemen of Jalandhar by the police of Himachal Pradesh on the suspicion that they had been sent for booth capturing in the state, has caused a lot of embarrassment to the district administration here.

Visibly upset on Nov.8, Deputy Commissioner $.K. Kakkar convened a meeting of the officials’ concerned to ascertain the facts, he was told by the concerned officials that the cops were sent as escorts on the request of the Congress workers, who wanted to take buses to Himachal Pradesh for their campaign.

It was, on Sunday, that the Theog police of Shimla district detained seven cops’ of Punjab Police while they were moving around in the Punjab buses in uniform and carrying sophisticated arms, The fact that strengthened the suspicion of the Himachal Police was that the buses were plying unauthorized and without valid papers. However, the statements of policemen that they were sent by the Jalandhar SP along with nine buses for transporting the supporters of Congress Candidate Vidya Stokes and the driver’s allegation that the District Transport Officers (DTO) of Jalandhar forced them to work for the Congress in Himachal Pradesh have put the district administration in dock.
