HYDERABAD: A City Inspector, B.Mallaih, allegedly involved in the theft of cartridges from the City arined Reserve Force, committed suicide by consuming poison after he was subjected to sustained interrogation by senior police officers, during the interrogation the cop appears to have been insulted and maltreated. He was rushed to hospital where he battled for life for three days before succumbing on Sept.29.

Highly placed police sources said Mallaih left behind a suicide note accusing Deputy Commissioner Police Jagnath Rao of abetting his suicide, Mallaih, who belonged to a backward caste had also reportedly complained that some police officials had insluted him by naming his caste during the interrogation.

The city police had recently arrested a scrap dealer for possessing empty cartridges and some live cartridges stolen from the police arsenal. Later, more scrap dealers and residences of some police officials were raided. More than 260 kg of empty cartridges, a large number of police tents and other property belonging to police, were recovered from the scrap dealers. Taking serous note of the matter, DCP Jagannath Rao, ACP Johnson and Inspector Ramlu have been asked to proceed on Ieave pending inquiry. Hyderabad Police Commissioner H.J.Dora has also constituted a high level four member enquiry committee.
