ISLAMABAD(PTI): Thousands of troops on Oct.3 spread out throughout Pakistan in the biggest peacetime deployment to perform election duty with the campaigning for the 1993 national assembly polls ending by Monday midnight.

“The deployment is in its final stages, Lt. Gen. Nazar, chief of the army election cell, said. that ear her been reported that as many as 150,000 personnel of the armed Forces would be pressed into Service to ensure free and fair polls on OcL.6.

The four provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and North West Frontier Province (NWFP) would go to polls on Oct 9.

More armed forces personnel would be deployed in violence prone areas like the five consitucneies of Jhang in Punjab, The authorities have reportedly already identified 50 such “sensitive constituencies where the armed forces would assist in the actual conduct of elections. Of the total 217 national assembly seals including 10 belonging to the minorities, the lion’s share of 115 seats belong to Punjab followed by 46 in Singh. The NWEP has 26 seats, Balochistan 11, the federally administered tribal areas eight and the Islamabad federal territory one.
