NEW DELHI(PTI): A seven member Sikh delegation was disallowed to meet the President, Dr.S.D.Sharma by the security staff at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Oct.1 on security grounds when the delegation members insisted carrying ‘Kirpans’ (Daggers) with them, the members said. The Delegation including Akali leaders, Simranjeet Singh Mann, S.S,Bamala, Parkash Singh Badal, G.S.Tohra, and Bhai ManjitSingh went to meet the president to submit a memorandum protesting against alleged “sacrilege” by Punjab police at a Gurdwara in Ludhiana district on Sept. 15.
The Delegation members said that the security staff did not allow them to enter the premises and asked them to deposit their kirpans with the security staff.
The memorandum demanded a public apology by the government for the incident and punishment to all those responsible.
