NEW DELHI(PTI): the finance minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sept.9 said the ongoing economic reforms in the country would receive a serious setback if noneconomic issues, like religious (disputes and divisive caste wars, were allowed to cause political instability.
He told the 73rd annual meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and — Industry (ASSOCHAM) here, that tinsels the ecoos were carried to their logical conclusion, the country would revert to the unprecedented financial crisis it faced in 1991 and the international financial institutions would no longer come to its rescue.
“The country is now al critical crossroads to spur its integrated socioeconomic development and if the process of economic reforms is not allowed to succeed, India will enter into the 21st century as the poorest country in Asia,” he warned.
