NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government will grant the second language status to Punjabi and a bill to that effect has been introduced in the Assembly, State Finance Minister Jagdish Mukhi said. The Minister was participating in a seminar on Sunday on Narinder Singh Kohli’s latest novel “Angare’ organized by the. Punjabi Intellectual Forum. The Minister said around 70 percent of the people talked in Punjabi till the 70’s. After that the complexion of the city’s population complexion changed. Mr. Kohli’s novel in which the businessman turned author pot 5 three women, belonging to me upper-strata of society who as: friends, feel strongly about women’s liberation. Whereas Mr. S.S. Noor appreciated the novel’s plot construction, he criticized its diction and style. Dr. Kamjit Singh described’ the novel as a faithful presentation of upper class Punjabi society. Dr.S.P. Singh and Dr, Manjit Singh said the novel painted the inner contradictions of the society which forces women cumb to various sort of exploitation.
