SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA): The International Human Rights Organization (IHRO) based in India announces the formation of its branches in Australia and New Zealand.
With this announcement the THRO perhaps becomes the first India based organization to expand itself across continents.
The IHRO is spearheading a movement to highlight human rights problem in the Indian subcontinent particularly in Punjab and Kashmir. The purpose of extending its area of activity, according to IHRO Chairman D.S.Gill, is ‘to reach out to the world governments and the international community to pay more attention to the gross human rights abuses occurring in India, the so called largest democracy in the world.
Surinder Singh Mankoo has been Nominated as the president of Australia branch while Baldev Singh Dhaliwal and Prem Singh Bains have been taken vice presidents.
Raghujit Singh Bhinder and Gurmail Singh will function as secretary and coordinator of the branch. Manjit Singh Mann, Harpal Singh Sandhu, Gurbax Singh Bains, Ram Singh and Amarjit Singh have been appointed as president, vice-president, coordinator, secretary and joint secretary respectively of the IHRO branch in New Zealand.
IHRO has already established North American branch headed by Dr.Rajwant Singh in Washington, D.C. as president and Gurdev Singh Gill as coordinator in Toronto,
THRO is an independent nonparty human rights movement which campaigns for the right to self-determination for those struggling for the political rights besides documenting and publishing reports on human rights violations. It also has its chapters in Europe and North America.
D.S.Gill, who was invited by the Sikh community in both the countries, met government officials and human rights activists there.
