HYDERABAD: Rig Veda is not a work of a primitive nomadic tribe as is now supposed, but contained a high degree of astronomical knowledge, according to recent Studies conducted by the Hyderabad based B.M.Birla Science Center.

Rig Veda and related Vedic literature contained accurate and sophisticated calendric astronomy pointing not to an illiterate seminomadic tribal society buta well settled agrarian and scholastic population, Dr.G.S Sidharth, director-general of the center, who Jed the study, said.

Once the astronomical content of Vedic literature was recognized, Several dates began to emerge contradicting the prevalent picture of prehistory, he said, claiming that there was no archaeological basis for the theory that Indo Aryans Invaded India around 1500 B.C.Rig Veda was not compiled by IndoAryans nomadic tribes around 1500 BC as is now supposed but was the product of a well settled civilization going back to 8000 BC and beyond on the basis of astronomical dating.
