PATNA (PTI):The flood situation in Darbhanga and Muraffarpur districts of the eastern state of Bihar worsened July 29 with most major rrivers rising menacingly. In Sitamarhi, official sources put the increased toll at 33.

Rivers Ganga and Burhi Gandak eroded their embankments in Saranand Vaishali distnict sat number of places, Largescale damage to standing crops and private and public properly was reported from Sitamarhi, the sources said) adding property worth over Rs 150 crore had been damaged.

Swollen rivers had wrought havoc in a large number of villages in Muzaffarpur district, the sources said. The situation in Darbhanga district was also grim and army Jawans had launched massive relief and rescue operations. 4 central water commission reports here said while the Burhi Gandak was following above the danger level at Samastipur and Rosera, the Bagmati had crossed the red mark at Benibad.
