AMRITSAR: Sardar Gurcharan Singh Tohra, the President of S.G.P.C, recently released the book “Perspectives on Sikh Gurdwaras Legislation” authored by Surjit Singh Gandhi, renowned for his contribution to Sikh/Punjab history.

The book opens casements on different perspectives out of which emerged Sikh Gurdwaras Act 1925 and its subsequent amendments Commitantly, it registers” attitudes of different communities and different governments vis-a-vis the Sikh” Gurdwaras Legislation. Much talked about All India Gurdwara Legislation has also been studied in this book. The author’s prognosis is that sooner or later All India Gurdwaras Legislation will be a reality, because it responds to the ta aspirations of the Sikhs, The lackadaisical attitude of the central government a-vis All India Gurdwaras Legislation is due perhaps because of apprehensions that firstly the Akalis, who command big majority of the Sikhs, would acquire greater prestige and influence and secondly, the Sikhs would have access to some sort of constitutional apparatus to throw up their agreed leadership. The book also underlines the trendsetting capacity of Gurdwaras Legislation in terms of religio social attitudes, The study is well documented and exceedingly informative.
