Historical perspective of the burning Punjab minority rights in “free India” were specified by the leader of the majority community in clear and unmistakable words.
The non-Hindu people of Hindustan, must either adopt the Hindu culture and language, must learn to respect and nod in reverence to the Hindu religion, must entertain no ideas but those of glorification of the Hindu race and culture. They may stay in this country wholly subordinate to the Hindu nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, for less any preferential treatment, not even citizen rights,” said Go walker.
The above words are not mere “wishes” but real threats translate into action resulting in the communal clashes taking place all over India. Particularly in“ Hindi” language states this attitude has resulted in the taking of 1,000 or more minority heads.
In 1984, the Sikh Holy place, Harminder Sahib and 37 other Sikh shrines were stormed by huge army attacks. (More force than that employed in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war) Aimed at flushing out40 alleged criminals who were not there. More than 7,000 pilgrims and employees were murdered (many were caught and shot at close range) and valuable and irreplaceable relics and scriptures were burnt intentionally, This vengeful act was to destroy Sikhs and their faith and to please the majority voters,
People have to decide who are the criminals?, the majority who kills a minority or a minority who cries for human rights?
The Gandhi Raj
Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi led the communal rule to annihilate minorities. This case is presented to the court of the people and press so that they can ask questions from the Indian government representatives to determine for themselves who are the terrorists.
Pre Independence
According to the 1929 edition of “Words of the Times”, the 500,000 strong procession led by the veteran Baba Kharak Singh (the leader of the Sikhs) put the Congress show (the All India Congress processions and their conference which passed are solution to obtain complete independence from the British) into shame and shadow,
Congress leaders including Mahatma Gandhi went to the Sikhs to get their help and in return gave solemn assurances that, “After India achieves political freedom, no constitution will be framed by the majority unless it is acceptable to the Sikhs (All India Congress Session Lahore 1929).
In 1931 Mahatma Gandhi personally reiterated in the Gurdwara in Delhi, before a congregation of the Sikhs that, “I ask you to accept my word and the resolution of the Congress that it will not betray a single individual much less a community. If it ever thinks of doing so, it will not only hasten ns own doom but that of the country too.” “Young Indian” March 16, 1931.
Sikhs have no demands to make.
They will satisfy their political rights and aspirations through the good will of congress and the majority.” Was the statement of a Sikh leader in London-May 1947.
After Independence :The Congress decides to destroy the Sikh identity, They take a u- turn.
A false sense of good will came from the Congress to the Sikhs: It was explained in a secret letter to all the administrative heads in the state by the Home Ministry of the Congress Government. “Sikhs particularly those migrating from the west Punjab (Pakistan) should be treated like a “criminal tribe.”
Sikhs wanted a united country. Mahatma Gandhi protesting against Pakistan said that Pakistan could be built only over his dead body. He went back on his promise to the people and agreed to the division of Punjab and the formation of Pakistan, resulting in the migration of hundreds of thousands of Sikhs from West Punjab who left their land, property and valuables there. Imagine the agony of the Sikhs when they came to know the secret welcome statement (given above) of the Home Minister.
First phase; to destroy the Sikhs and their religion:
All states in India were reorganized on the bases of language. From Punjab some areas were taken away and merged with the Hindi speaking areas now called Himachal Pardash, The remaining Punjab was mischievously declared bilingual (Punjabi/ Hindi speaking) telling the Sikhs, it was the will of the majority. Hindu’s living in Punjab and speaking Punjabi for centuries, declared themselves Hindi speaking because of the misguidance purposely given by the Indian Congress and Arya Samaji’s (the local communal vocal Hindus). They went from door to door to tell people, of course in Punjabi language, that they should declare Hindi their mother tongue.
After 10 years of struggle by the Sikhs and about a hundred thousand going to jail, Punjabis were “obliged” by further dismemberment of their state, leaving only one quarter of the area as Punjabi speaking Punjab of what it originally was before independence. The capital of Punjab was taken over by the Delhi government along with the water and power resources of the state, This distinction was given only to Punjab because it was the homeland of the Sikhs.
Whenever the Akali Dal (Sikh Political Wing) became a partner of the ruling group, the congress used central pressure, money and other methods of purchasing the legislative members to get the government to fall, sometimes not completing even half of the term. They wanted to see Sikhs only as slaves and helpless spectators sitting on the opposition benches in the legislature.
Second phase; to destroy the Sikh Holy Center.
Having become angry with the Sikhs for not supporting her unprincipled and illegal emergency during 1975-1977, Indira Gandhi decided to get rid of the “problem” of the Sikhs. The third agency (K.G.B. of India) was given this job. To justify its planned attack on the Golden Temple, to damage the Sikh psyche, to break their back (in the words of Indira Gandhi) the Sikhs were teased, harassed, insulted and all religious and political demands were misrepresented and spumed.
Khalistan (an independent Sikh state) was first publicly demanded in a meeting of Congress supporters. The idea was put in the mouth of the Sikhs even though they repeatedly denied it,
The Khalsa awakens
The man who awakened the Sikhs to be true Sikhs was Sant Jamail Singh Bhindranwale. When he was interviewed by a foreign reporter he is on record as saying, “we do not demand Khalistan. If the government gives it, we will not refuse it.” This interview was taken just a short time before the Indian” Army invaded the Golden Temple. Sant Jarnail Singh went on to say,” if and when the army attacks us, the foundation stone of Khalistan will be laid.”
Indira Gandhi did attack the Golden Temple, and destroyed, not the Sikhs, but herself. And at the same time she laid the foundation stone of Khalistan.
Bringing truth to that statement made by Mahatma Gandhi that,” when the Congress betrays the Sikhs it will not only hasten its own doom but that of its country too.”
