NEPEAN (ONTARIO): World Sikh Org., Canada has alerted the Canadian govt. about the latest media coverage concerning the arrest of an Air India bomb suspect.

In an letter written to the ministry of external affairs of Canada, $.Ram Raghbir Singh Chahal, President of WSO (Canada) has written that “The Canadian government has spent 100 million dollars on seven years’ worth of investigation. It would be a shame to have that all swept under the rug, by a manipulative Indian government Unless someone is there to monitor what precisely is going on, you will never have any more than the not always reliable word of what we all know to be an oppressive regime.

The government of India is not above making false arrests, and procuring “confessions” through torture and intimidation. Unless someone is there to monitor his treatment this man, Manjit Singh is in grave danger. It will make little difference whether he is guilty or not. He is in the hands of the Indian government. If they choose to make an example of him, you know that his life will not be worth a hill of beans. It is in the interest of the international community to make sure that he is treated humanely. Confessions made under torture and duress should not be considered valid. Furthermore, should he be killed or “disappear” we will never know what the truth is behind his story. S. Chahal has appealed the external affairs minister Ms. Dougall to intervene by putting in requests to the Indian government to see this man. And that you continue to monitor his treatments while in detention. The incident of the Air India crash was a Canadian tragedy, in which Canadian citizens were killed. Canada must not abdicate its responsibilities to a foreign power at this late date.
