VANCOUVER: “Every endeavor should be made to enlighten our children about our Sikh heritage and all-embracing religion,” said Bhai Joginder Singh Sidhu on Sunday, July 26,1992, at Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Society, Ross Street Vancouver. Bhai Joginder Singh Sidhu was speaking at the prize distribution function of the Gurbani contest organized by Gurdwara Khalsa Diwan Society for encouraging children to learn Gurbani, kirtan and Tohla etc,

According to Joginder Singh Sidhu, about 45 boys and girls, (between 5 & 18 years) including an enthusiast from Seattle (USA), took part in the contest.

Blaming the parents for not taking proper plans to educate their children about Sikh religion and Sikh heritage, Bhai Joginder Singh said, “It is due to our neglect that our children are going away from us and are ignorant about their glorious heritage, What will we get, if we lose our children” Bhai Joginder Singh went on to add “we are so much absorbed in amassing wealth that, in some cases, we have gone to the extent of criminal neglect of our children. We have no time to sit with them, love them and tell them what wonderful people we are. How wonderful and great our Gurus are,” General Secretary Bhai Avtar Singh Sandhu and President Bhai Kundam Singh Sajjan, also emphasized the importance of Gurbani contests and thanked the Sangat for their cooperation, Bhai Sahib Giani Balwinder Singh gave away the prizes to the winners.
