NEW DELHI: The past week was perhaps the most uncomfortable at 5.B.Chavan has had to live through. And one that the Home Minister may find hard to live down battered from all sides over the Ayodhya issue and the government’s “non-action” Chavan found that he was in the dog house of Elders as well. After visiting Ayodhya and the Ramjamambhoomi-Babri Masjid (dashingly referred to as JBBM throughout his statement) Chavan could say offer by say of comments was that “prima facie” he was convinced that the UP government was violating court orders that he internal circuit TVs were in need of repairs and other such sundry Observations on the security arrangements.
Though the non-BJP Opposition parties staged a walk-out in protest the relief was short-lived as they scooped back after a while to subject Chavan to a further arrange of peers.
Chavan cannot really be blamed for what some MPs termed is a “helpless” statement since the Center finds itself in a no win situation over Ayodhya and has been delaying for time. “But the Home Minister’s performance was far from polished.
Another Minister who earned the Rajya Sabah’s ire was Manmohan Singh who: “holier than throw” attitude towards the RBI Governor during the discussion on the Stock markets cam led to two walk Outs and several biting comments” from angry and dissatisfied Opposition MPs.
As BIP President “Murlis Manohar Joshi put it” All we can gather from the honorable Finance Minister’s reply is that the RIP is a holy cow that the RBI Governor is a holy cow It’s a sleeping beauty and we should not disturb it
Dr.Singh not only refused to accept any moral responsibility for the Rs 3500 crore fraud he said that he had “searched his heart” and did not believe that he had done anything immoral by the Joint Parliamentary Committee he Suggested
The latter part of the week saw the spotlight being directed towards the Lok Sabha in view of the Opposition-sponsored no confidence motion against the government. But in the Rajya Sabha business went on as usual. The House approved the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature (Delegation of powers). But which had earlier been passed to the Lok Sabha.
Another Bill which could have a salutary effect if enforced in the right spirit was the one to get and of permanent guests or to soviet its official nomenclature the Public Premises (Eviction of unauthorized occupants) Bill
The Bill passed unanimously by the House Now the eviction of unauthorized persons who have made their home in Central and State governments hostels such as VP House and Western Court.
