NEW DELHI(PTI):General Bipin Chandra Joshi formally took over as the 17th chief of the Indian army staff on July 2 and said he was proud to lead “such a vibrant and pulsating organization.”

Gen Joshi said the next century would belong to India and the Indian army had a well-defined role to act as a catalyst, he said, “for a soldier there could be no greater honor that heading a redoubtable army likes ours which was unique.”

The new army chief was given a ceremonial guard of honor by smartly turned out soldiers drawn from second lancers, 61st Cavalry, 64th Cavalry, 44th armored regiment and the Elite bugade of guards, all the regiments of whose colonel commandant the new chief is. Later, he was formally introduced to the principal staff officer and other senior officers of the army headquarters before going 16 his first Noor chambers to put his signature formally signaling his taking over the fourth largest army of the world.
