PARIS(PTI): The aid India consortium of western donors has voiced its serious concern at New Delhi’s “failure” to utilize the existing aid commitments of staggering U.S. dollar more than 18.5 billion piled up over the years and also called for urgent measures to accelerate implementation and disbursement and action to Strengthen project pipeline,

The aid club of affluent nations and multilateral financial institutions told the Indian delegation categorically that the amount India had not been able to utilize in the past “is too large” and is causing alarm among the donor community,

“India seems more interested in obtaining new loans rather than m spending what she has already got,” the donors said. The seriousness of this “long standing complaint” of the world bank and other consortium members prompted the donors to convene a special session June 30, prior to the formal meeting of the aid club here July 1, to discuss exclusively measures to improve project pipeline and expedite implementation and disbursement from existing aid commitments, Last year, the consortium members’ concern over the Narmada project had facilitated a similar Special session where the Indian team of experts had ted to dispel the western donors’ misgivings about the Sardar Sarovar dam.
