CHICAGO: Mohinderjit Singh Saint, a past executive, social and finance secretary of Sikh Religious Society of Chicago was invited to become a member of the Asian American Advisory Council of Jack Malley the state’s attorney of Cook County lllinois.
The advisory council examines issues and concerns of the Asian American community and focuses on formulating ways to address these concems.
Sikh American community has several unique issues concerning them. Their religious symbols and traditional apparel, the wearing of the turban, the ceremonial “Kirpan” and their unshom hair have been sources of discrimination during employment and on the street due to the Jack of knowledge by the main stream Americans about Sikh traditions.
Saini with his participation in the council will continue to bring such discriminatory cares to light for affirmative action.
