LOS FRESNOS, TX: Where is a good attorncy when you need one? That is the question that Biswajeet Mishra asked us last week when his frustration with the U.S. immigration system Jed him to call W.S.N_ with his plea for help.

This is the story he told our reporter: Two years ago he came to the U.S. as a graduate student in Computer Science and Economics. Attending North Carolina State University on a General Motors scholarship, he was in possession of a valid student visa. Last year, due to General Motors financial problems his scholarship was not funded.

For the next two semesters he didn’t’ attend class. The LN.S. Called him in for questioning about this and subsequently ordered his detention, His case was heard, the judge granted him freedom but the I.N.S. appealed the case. Upon his release in December 92, he maintained an association with others who were incarcerated, serving as an interpreter for those needing. Medical care for local immigration attorneys.

On the 251h of January he received 4 calls that there were 25 Punjabi women who had been arrested and needed translation assistance. After arriving at the prison he was detained and has remained incarcerated ever since. He says that he has raised $3000 of his $4000 bond = $1000 between him and his freedom.
