CHANDIGARH (PTI): Several militants, including “Lt. Gen” of the Khalistan Liberation Force, was killed in the northern Indian state of Punjab.
The KLF Lt, Gen, Harbans Singh, and his accomplice were killed in an exchange of fire with police near village Bardeke under Jagraon police district.
Lt Gen of the Khalistan Armed Force was among 14 militants shot dead by security forces in the state.
Joga Singh, Lt Gen of Khalistan armed force, his wife Kamaljeet Kaurand one unidentified accomplice, were shot dead in an encounter with police near Khanpur Village under Beas police station of Majitha police.
Five militants, including the newly appointed chief of Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan (BTFK) Balwinder Singh alias Rebeiro, were killed in separate encounters in Punjab.
Balwinder and his unidentified accomplice were killed in an hours Jong encounter with security forces in the Riverine Mand arca near village Kore Vidhan in Amritsar early Tuesday.
Balwinder Singh had masterminded the plot to kill the then director general of Punjab police J.F.Ribiero at the high security Punjab Armed Police (PAP) complex at Jalandhar in 1986, the police chief had escaped unhurt while his wife was injured in the attack.
Meanwhile in New Delhi, 25 militants were killed and 59 apprehended in 17 encounters with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) across India last month.
The chief of the International Guerrilla Force of Khalistan, Balwinder Singh Mulawala, and a Lt. Gen. of the Khalistan armed force, Harwant Singh, were among those killed, a CRPF release said.
A CRPF Jawan was killed and seven were wounded during the encounters.
A lop militant, identified as Bikramjeet Singh alias Fauji, Lt-Gen of the Khalistan Liberation Force, was killed in a gun battle with security forces near village Boparai Baj Singh under Cheretta police station in Amritsar, His accomplice fled the scene, the police said.
