NEW DELHI: With a “triple K” linkage of “Karachi, Khalistan and Kashmir,” domestic strife both in Pakistan and India was being accentuated by tension ridden relations between the two countries, according to two prominent Pakistan analysts.
Since Kashmir like Afghanistan has a contiguous border with Pakistan and militancy there seemed to be taking on protracted nature, an inexorable process of “Afghani sing” of the Kashmir problem was apparently in the offing, Mushahid Hussain and Akmal Hussain writes in a book on the Problems of governance.”
They feel that three sets of consequences were now clearly visible or Pakistan, smaller in scale but similar to the Afghan situation.
According to them, up to 20,000 men, women and children had crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir from the Indian side. There was pressure from these Kashmiris who are keen on acquiring Pakistani citizenship as they were facing difficulties in getting their visit visas extended indefinitely.
“This is similar to the process that helped Afghans to achieve the same sort of Pakistani nationality owing to the conflict in Afghanistan,” they observed.
According to the book, the Kashmir militant organizations like the Afghan Mujahideen groups had established offices in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
These groups range from the “Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front” to the “Hizbul Mujahideen.” Earlier this year, a prominent figure of the JKLF had his offices bombed in the heart of Rawalpindi city.
This replayed a cycle of civil strife on the Kashmir issue with Pakistan Similar to that witnessed in the case of the Afghan Mujahedeen’s, the analysts emphasized.
