NEW DELHI,(PTI):The Indian government should table the Verma commission report in the Parliament during the forthcoming Monsoon session, according to an editorial in an Indian daily.
The commission probed the security lapses leading to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination and identified those responsible, to determine whether the assassination could be averted, and to review existing security arrangements for the VIPs and suggest methods to Strengthen these,
It is essential to take the people and parliament into confidence on what the commission has to say on the subject,” the editorial in the “Indian Express” said,
Another editorial in “The Hindustan Times” said ever since May 21, the day Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated, the country has been confronted with unanswered questions about the crime.
The only known finding of the report is that the tragedy could have been averted, which is true for almost all comparable assassinations, the daily said,
Not much has been said about the commission conclusions of the possibility of a deep laid conspiracy behind the crime that interfered directly with the country’s political process, and had more than domestic consequences, the editorial said, The daily wants the report to be published as soon as possible and says “little can the nation as a whole afford not to draw any of the available lessons from the tragedy of this kind, whose repetition it cannot risk.”
