MADRAS (PTI): Muthuvel Karunanidhi former chief minister of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu was June 2 unanimously elected DMK President for the sixth consecutive term at the party’s general council meeting here.
Karunanidhi who turned 69 June 3 has been heading the Party right from 1969.
K.Anbazhagan and S.J.Sadiq Pasha were also unanimously elected general secretary and treasurer respectively. This will be the fourth consecutive term in office for both of them.
Soon after the election Karunanidhi thanked partymen for their faith in his leadership and said the recently held party polls had shown that the DMK would be alive whether in power or not.
He also nominated K.Manoharan the party’s deputy general secretary.
