KURUKSHETRA: The Haryana government plans to revamp the CID department of the state police in the wake of the recent increase in militancy in the region.
The first step in this direction sources say will be to fill up the post of the CID chief which has been lying vacant since the death of J.P.Attre last year.
These sources say that the chief minister Bhajan Lal is keen on appointing Y.Hari Shankar as inspector-general of police (CID) He has already discussed the matter with Shankar who in turn has indicated that it would be better if he is relieved of his additional duties before being made the CID chief of Harvans.
Shankar who is one of the senior-most officers in Haryana is at present in charge of the telecommunication and technical departments which have their separate offices the former in the Punjab and Haryana secretariat and the latter in the Haryana police office in Sector 26 in Chandigarh. The CID head office of Haryana is located at Panchkula
There is a general feeling among the people that militancy in the State could have been effectively controlled had the CID been active Over the past year. V.K-Kapoor at present DIG (CID) has not been very successful because the CID in Punjab is headed by a higher-ranking Officer. As a result Of this disparity the CID Wings of the two states do not interact well
It was learned that the Haryana government plans to modernize its police force in a big way. As the first step the police have purchased 40 Tata-mobile vehicles and 60 Maruti Gypsys. More vehicles are likely to be inducted shortly
The newly-purchased Tata-mobiles are being used for patrolling in the border district of the state.
