FEROZEPORE: A breach 200 feet long was caused in the right bank of Ferozepore feeder canal. This is said to be the political action by Sikh militants to protest against the illegal supply of Punjab water to Rajasthan, The canal has a capacity of 12000 cusees and was running at 8500 cusees capacity out of which 4000 cusees go to Rajasthan. Two canals take off from Harike headworks. The other one is Indira Gandhi canal which exclusively irrigate Rajasthan.

It may be recalled that Sikh militants are committed to stop- ping the supply of water com- pletely from Punjab to the Hindu states.

A small breach was also caused in the Bhakra Mainline canal but the breach was plugged by the Indian authorities with the help of the army.

As a result of the breach in the Ferozepore canal, Manochahal village was inundated causing some loss to houses and crops, according to a report received here. Panthak committee Dr. Sohan Singh and four militant’s organizations have owned responsibility for breaching the Ferozepore feeder canal and bhakhra main canal near R opar recently.
