LUDHIANA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that militant activities in the state have assumed alarming proportions after the takeover of the Congress (I) government in the state and has called upon the Prime Minister P.V Narasimha Rao to intervene and save the situation from getting to a point of no return.

A meeting of the state office bearer’s district presidents and MLAs of the party was held here with the Punjab BJP president Madan Mohan Mittal in the chair. The national vice president of the party Dr. Baldev Parkash and the general secretary Madan Lal Khurana attended the meeting as special invitees.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting Khurana said the meeting expressed serious concern over the extension of killings and other violent acts to neighboring states like Haryana Uttar Pradesh Rajasthan and Delhi.

He said the demand for Khalistan reiterated by the Akali groups and panthic organizations at their Anandpur Sahib meeting was a virtual recognition of militant outfits and secessionist elements which was a serious development.
