NEW DELHI: Twenty-four hours after the anti-terrorist operation in Kallash Colony the Delhi Police remained tight-lipped about the whole operation. Not surprisingly a number of questions remain unanswered despite DCP South Neeraj Kumars argument that “we cannot confirm anything unless we cross-check facts.”

For one nobody can say for certain whether Rajvinder Singh and Harbhajan Singh were shot by the constables or whether they committed suicide.

The fact that both the ultras and the policemen were firing with .38 revolvers doesn’t help either since the bullets would be of similar make. Senior police officials pointed out that if the shots were fired at point-blank range at least one militant would have had his brains splattered on the ground.

On the flip side circumstantial evidence clearly shows that they were on higher ground and had a boundary wall to serve as a cover.

That they gave up this logistical advantage to shoot themselves also sounds difficult to believe.

Staving off further conjecture Mr Neeraj Kumar said “The real picture will only come out when the ballistic experts submit their report.

The DCP also denied press reports that the Kalkaji temple had been earmarked specially by the group adding that their intention was to create a panic.

The police have also managed to identify the antecedents of the motorbikes ownership which the militants were planning to use as a getaway vehicle.

A 1985 Rajdoot model (DIX 3925) it was first bought by Ashok Kumar an East of Kailash resident who sold it to Amritpal Singh who stays in Sant Nagar.

Earlier in the day Amritpal Singh and Balbir Singh Cheema were produced in Metropolitan Magiswate R.K. Gargs court who remanded them to police custody till April 20. According to Police sources they were later whisked away for further interrogation (The interrogation is being conducted by South District police and Special Branch.)

According to Mr. Neeraj Kumar Ravi Khanna (the bystander who was killed in the shootout) was cremated at the Nigambodh Ghat while Harbhajan Singhs body was claimed by his wife and brothers and cremated at Kalkaji. Nobody had yet staked a claim for Rajinder (Pentas brother) the DCP said adding that a wireless message had been sent to the militant’s native village in Majitha. The DCP admitted that Harbhajans kin had come to Lajpat Nagar police station in the morning and demanded that the postmortem be hurry Up. (Harbhajan a Delhi resident came under police cynosure earlier when he had contested the Gurdwdara elections in Garhl).
