Ludhiana: R.S. Tiwana S.P Operations) Ludhiana district together with his daughter and head constable were killed or Wednesday near Mundian village in a powerful bomb blast suspected to be planted by Sikh militants.
Tiwanas wife and eight other policemen were injured in the blast which occurred on the Ludhiana Chandigarh highway. Tiwana and members of his family were on way to Chandigarh.
Tiwana belonged to the CRPF and was on deputation with the Punjab police.
As the cars carrying Tiwana and his family neared a petrol pump at Mundian. There was a powerful bomb blast. Police head constable Surinder Singh and gunman Surjit Singh were killed on the spot. The body of his young daughter was blown to pieces.
The injured persons including tiwana’s wife have been admitted to hospital at Ludhiana where their condition was stated to be serious. Senior police officer rushed to the spot and cordoned the entire area. The bomb appeared to have been planted or the road and triggered through remote control device.
