WHY are Britain and India negotiating an Extraction Treaty?

‘A Home office official has admitted an Extradition Treaty offers no formal advantages in extradition matters to India she does not enjoys already as a Commonwealth county.

We must assume, therefore, India does see some advantage from having an Extradition Treaty with Britain: some political advantage.

India’s human rights record is becoming a matter of international concern.

It is suspected India’s propaganda ‘machine will go into overdrive to persuade Indians at home and abroad, that Britain signing an Extradition Treaty (and a bilateral agreement on the confiscation of terrorist a bilateral agreement on the confiscation of terrorist India demonstrates Britain’s support for Indian policy in Punjab and Kashmir.

‘There can be no doubt Indian agents in Britain will threaten those of Indian origin with extradition and trouble. If they promote political views which are unpopular with Delhi.

It is wrong that a British Govern ment in its dying days in office should be signing treaties and agreements with India which have important political consequences. The negotiation: should be halted: a new British Government should decide ‘whether she negotiation resume.
