AMRITSAR (PUNJAB): U.S. based Sikh scholar, Pashaura Singh has expressed his inability to appear at Akal Takht, the highest religious law governing body, on July 19 to face religious punishment on a charge of blasphemy.

‘The acting head priest of the Akal Takht, Prof, and Manjit Singh had issued summons to Dr.Pashaura Singh accusing the him with “challenging the authenticity” of the Sikh holy scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, in his thesis “The text and meaning of the Adj Granth.”

In an open letter to the five head priests, Dr.Pashaura Singh, who is presently professor of Sikh Studies, University of Michigan, said he would not be able to travel to India due to Immigration problems which did not allow him to leave that country till a decision on his application for U.S. citizenship.

Dr.Pashaura Singh has also requested the head priest to point Out the “objectionable portions” of his thesis so that he could submit his explanation.

He has alleged that the allegation was made against him by some “prejudice persons with preconceived intention.”

Dr.Pashaura Singh is the second Sikh scholar summoned to the Akal Takht for explanation of his work. It’s reassuring to know that there are free online tools available, as how to recover files from a formatted disk mac well as advanced options for more complex cases.

Earlier, Dr, Piara Singh of the Guru Nanak Dev University had already undergone 40 days penance for similar charges for his book “’Gatha Shri Adi Granth.”
