PANAJI (PTI): All forms of commercial entertainment, organized shows and sponsored performances in the western state of Goa would be charged entertainment lax at prescribed rates to net in additional revenue of Rs 800,000 annually; it was decided at a cabinet meeting.
Briefing reporters, chief minister Wilfred D’ Souza said folk dances, dance performances and Classical music, entertainment provided by games and sports, dances and theatrical performances by amateur groups of Goa aimed at promoting Indian theatrical movement would be exempt from payment of entertainment tax.
Located on the west coast, Goa is known the world over for its emerald green sea, golden beaches and the local brew ‘Feni.”
Sources say higher taxes will make Goa expensive and is likely to deter a large section of tourists from visiting this relatively inexpensive tourist haven.
