I salute the martyrs
Martyrs the keepers of our faith
Martyrs who died while we lived
Martyrs who suffered while we
watched
Martyrs who are not mortal
Martyrs who are immortal
Because their names live forever salute the martyrs
Martyrs the keepers of our faith
The year 1606.
There was Guru Arjun Dev Ji
Calm stoic and firm
Oh so firm in his belief
That waheguru was the only
Truth
They poured on him
hot burning sand
He sat on the “hot tavay”
Burnt scorched and blistered ere kiya mitha lagay
Tere kiya mitha lagay”
That was what Guna Arjun Dev Hi said
When he was martyred that was what Guru Arjun Dev Said
He died so Sikhs could live Guru Arjun Dev Ji
The first Sikh martyr
I salute the martyrs
Martyrs the keepers of our faith The year 1675
Time had moved on
9 & 3 score years later
The Kashmiri Brahmins visited Guna Teg Bahadur Ji
“Help us” the pundits said “They have destroyed our temples
Our faith is a stake
We are Hindus we keep the Hindu faith”
Help us help us keep our faith.”Thats what the pandits said.
The Sikh Gura thought There is an obvious solution.
The Sikh Guru thought
There is an obvious solution The 9 year old Gobind Rai Suggested the same solution “What greater sacrifice can there be.
Than the great Guru himself ?” Guru Teg Bahadur i agreed And off to Delhi he went.
The supreme sacrifice was planned
And his life would soon some to an end
And what a martyr he was
the Sikh guru gave his life
So that the Hindu faith faith may live.
Guru Teg Bahadur i died
So that Sikhism would live.
And that was only the beginning Martyrdom was upon us Courage was our birth right Justice our goal
We salute the martyrs
who showed us our goal.
I salute the martyrs
Martyrs the keepers of our faith Tow to the martyrs our Gurus The keepers of our faith.
(This poem was read by 8 year old Arjan Singh during a Sanday Diwan at Gurdwara Sahib G.G.S.F. The program was conducted by Sikh Youths
