SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Mohinder Singh, a Gursikh born and raised in Malwal, Punjab sought political asylum because of his active role in furtherance of the Sikh cause and the creation of Khalistan. He came to United States on March 31, 1992 through El Paso Texas. Upon entering United States he was arrested by the border patrol, Immigration & Naturalization Service, El Paso and placed in an exclusion hearing.
He requested release and was bonded out by depositing $4,500 with the INS. Thereafter he came to Los Angeles and contacted attorney Mohinder Singh of Danville California, for representation, a motion for change of venue brought the case from Texas to San Francisco.
A hearing on the merits of his asylum claim was heard on July 1, 93 by Honorable Immigration Judge Bernard Hornbach. He claimed association with the All India Sikh Student Federation since 1986. His job was to organize and recruit members, 20 from town to town to tell people what the Punjab police were doing to malign Sikhs, He claimed he was tortured three times in 1991, April, August and October for a total of 26 days. He was threatened to be killed if he did not refrain from AISSF called protest demonstrations and civil disobedience. Mohinder Singh, represented the political asylum applicant, this was his 36th success in representing Sikhs who seek asylum because of their political opinion of seeking separation from India under the banner of the All India Sikh Student Federation.
