CALCUTTA: The Union minister for human resources development, Arjun Singh, on Feb.7 scotched all talks of a change of leadership in the Congress and the government at the Center,

Speaking to reporters here, Singh said what was required at the moment was formulation of a line of action to stop the drift and indecision in the country.

Singh said confusion had been created about his approach to important issues. The drift and indecision had enabled the fascist forces to pose a threat to the country’s ideals and values, he said.

Asked to comment on the demand by a section of the Congress for a change in the leadership, Singh said he could discuss the issue only at a party forum. He proposed to take up at Monday’s working committee meeting his differences ‘on the question of drafting a white paper on Ayodhya.

He expressed confidence that Congressmen though frustrated and bewildered by the Ayodhya events, were capable of fighting the “dark forces.” The Union minister said the party needed unity for this purpose. But this unity should be a decisive force and not head them towards drift and indecision, he added.

Arjun Singh felt the line of action to fight and defeat the communal and fundamentalist forces could be formulated through discussions, Askedif the party needed to change the Prime Minister to slop the drift and indecision, Singh replied that a change of leadership was not required to formulate the line of action.
