CHICAGO: The Sikh American community of Chicago is celebrating the Vaisakhi festival, its Cultural heritage on April 24, at 5 Pm. at lane Tech High School Auditorium, 2501 W. Addison Street in Chicago. A traditional Punjabi Cultural variety program titled “Rangla Punjab” will show case Bhangra, Gidha, Punjabi Songs, music, poetry, skits and youth items from the land of five rivers, Punjab, where Vaisakhi is a major festival.
According to the press released by S.Rajinder Singh Mago, it is said that “Rangla Punjab” a major annual event in Chicago is organized by Sikh community affairs committee of Sikh religious society of Chicago to preserve and promote Punjabi language. Cultural heritage and to harness local Punjabi community talent.
Vaisakhi is special to the Sikh community because on this day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh the 10th Sikh Guru baptized his followers into the order of “Khalsa” meaning the pure one and named them “Singh.”
