NEW DELHI (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBD) has identified at least 400 people who participated in the demolition of the Babri Mosque at Ayodhya on December 6 and would be filing charge sheets against them in the next 10 to 12 weeks, CBI sources said.

Investigators from India’s premier investigative agency, fanned out in several parts of the country after the case was handed over to the premier investigation agency in December following the demolition of the mosque.

The sources said that based on statements from local residents, govt officials and police officials of various states, the CBI has narrowed down on the people who took part in the demolition of the structure on Dec.6.

These people have also been identified on the basis of reports appearing in press and also through police reports from various states that developed it on the basis of people who on return to their respective states claimed to have taken part in the demolition, the sources Said. Another report from the capital said 14 journalists have urged Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to convene a National Integration Council (NIC) meeting immediately to discuss the incidents following demolition in Ayodhya and its solution. During NIC meetings, eminent person’s govt officials and leaders of various hues debate issues dividing the Indian society and suggest solutions. In a letter to Rao, the journalists said “we are witness to communal polarization, fear psychosis and ghettoization of communities that is taking place in cities like Bombay where there have been vicious riots.”
