CHANDIGARH: D.S. Multani an IAS officer of Punjab was aware of the activities of his son Balwant Singh who was caught last month for his involvement in the sensational car bomb attack on Chandigarh’s Senior Superintendent of Police S.S. Saini the city police has alleged.
The allegation which is based on the interrogation of Balwant Singh is made in a report sent to the Union Territory administration some time ago it is learnt.
A well-placed source said the police report was being sent to the Punjab government” for necessary action” as Multani happens to be a senior and responsible office of that state.
However the source emphatically denied a report carried by a Calcutta daily on Wednesday that the police had sought permission “arrest and prosecute” Multan.
“It is for the Punjab Government to decide what action they would like to take against Multani for his failure to report the activities of his son” the source said and added “We are only informing them of the findings of the investigations.”
Balwant Singh was arrested by the Chandigarh police on December 13. The police claimed that during interrogation Balwant Singh admitted his involvement in planning the August 29 attack on Saini.
Besides Balwant Sigh says the police two other engineers were also involved in planning the attack Balwant Singh remained in police custody for barely 10days. On the morning of December 22 it was stated that he escaped from police custody at Qadian where he had been taken in connection with the investigation. Multani had then complained that his son had probably been eliminated in a false encounter.
