JALANDHAR: Jasbir Singh, a Sikh political detainee lodged in the high-security jail at Amritsar, in a communication published in the local Punjabi daily, Aj Di Awaz, said the Punjab visit of a three- ‘member Canadian parliamentary delegation was a mockery and an exercise in futility.
The detainee said that the Canadian team left their work “half done” when they failed to visit any jail, including the high-security Amritsar jail, where thousands of Sikhs had been lodged for years without trail ‘or even charges.
Jasbir Singh asked S vend Robinson as to why was he in such a hurry to go back without meeting any detainees or visiting any jails all the ‘more so when he is reputed to be an old fighter for human rights.
Jasbir Singh said thousands of Sikhs had been rotting in jails in Punjab and elsewhere in the country for years after India ransacked the Sikh’s holy place Akal Takhat Saheb in 1984, He also alleged that ‘women were being dishonored in police stations and other interrogation Centers. “Has the Canadian team gotten all the information on these ‘matters? He asked.
‘The Sikh detainee also took the Mann Akali Dal and its representatives Jagmohan Singh Tony, Bhai Ram Singh and Bhai Harjap Singh to tack for not guiding the Canadian team properly on whom should i meet.
