New York: The Hindu leader of the BJP. Mr. L.K. Advani was recently invited to N.Y. to speak to local Hindu groups on party activities in India.
Because of Advanis avowed racist and xenophobic comments regarding Hindu rights and superiority a group of young men belonging to the Sikh Youth of America decided to exercise their right of protest.
On the night of his speech in Manhattan the group stood outside chanting “India out of Khalistan” and” “We need justice.”
The next day Advani was scheduled to address a group of Hindus at a Gujrati Samaj Bhavan in Queens N.Y.
The Sikh Youth of America again showed up to protest but were met by police who said that they needed a pent in order to assemble. S.Y.A. representatives then argued with the police and attempted to explain that Mr. Advanis made comments that they wished to protest. They then continued chanting “Advani is an agent of the Indian Government” and “India out of Khalistan.”
Mr. Kabal Singh vice president of the S.Y.A was arrested during the protest for assaulting a policeman and later released. Fremont resident Mr. Guriaj Singh president of the S.Y.A. was also on hand to support the protest.
Later Mr. Advani left the hall under police escort.
