NEW DELHI: The British foreign secretary, Douglas Hurd, Friday said his country was willing w provide India with arms to fill the gap created by the cessation of imports of military hardware from what was once the Soviet Union.
In an exclusive interview, Hurd said if India so desired, Indo British cooperation in the military field could be restored tits past scale.
Answering a question on the global scenario and the possibilities of greater political cooperation in a world without the Soviet Union, “Hurd said it would be possible for India and Britain o work wards common objectives unlike in the past when India tended to lean towards the Soviet Union.
“Asked whether Britain would mediate between India and Pakistan to sort out the differences between them, Hurd said the British government was not given to and implied that his government would not be averse to doing so if asked.
